Opened in 1891 and renovated in 2015, it houses over 750 works by great artists and represents a journey through art, history and faith.
Our visit begins in the Sala del Paradiso with the spectacular life-size reconstruction of the ancient of the ancient façade of Santa Maria del Fiore, begun in 1296 by Arnolfo di Cambio and dismantled, though unfinished, in 1587. Inside the same room are the three doors of the Baptistery, two of which are the work of Lorenzo Ghiberti.
Our journey continues with Donatello's Penitent Magdalene, which is striking for its intensity and strength, and Michelangelo's Pietà sculpted by the great artist late in life.
On the upper floor of the museum: the Campanile Gallery with the original 54 reliefs and 16 monumental statues decorating Giotto's Bell tower and the Dome Gallery with the 15th-century wooden models made for the great structure designed by Filippo Brunelleschi.
At the end of the visit we will go up to the panoramic terrace, located on the third floor, to admire the Duomo and the dome at close range
