Its green dome stands out unmistakably in the Florentine skyline, its architecture takes up the exotic Moorish style with Arab and Byzantine elements, a treasure chest that still contains the history of Florence's Jewish community.
Walking through the Sant'Ambrogio district, when you cross Via Farini, you don't expect such an imposing and elegant building to open up into this small exotic garden.
The Florentine Synagogue was inaugurated in 1882 as a symbol of the Jewish emancipation that took place after the Unification of Italy. During the guided tour we will retrace the fundamental stages of the first Jewish communities that settled in Florence, the creation of the ghetto commissioned by Cosimo I and finally the construction of the Synagogue.
Going up to the first and second floors we find the museum with domestic and private devotional furnishings, illustrating highlights of religious holidays and the life of a Jew such as birth, marriage and religious majority and a room dedicated to the Shoah.
To conclude our full immersion in Jewish daily life, we will continue with a tasting of vegetarian Kosher dishes in the historic Ruth restaurant, famous throughout the city for its hummus and kombucha!
