An excursion in the Biancane geothermal park, in a landscape reminiscent of Dante's Inferno.
From Monterotondo we will arrive at Sasso Pisano, in a wild and barren natural environment. We will observe the geothermal manifestations, such as the fumaroles, exhalations of hot steam that escape naturally from the ground; we will cross the park known as the 'Biancane' from the white colour of the rocks.
Few plant species manage to survive in such acidic soil: we will have the opportunity to see some beautiful cork oaks, and other plants typical of the Mediterranean area.
Halfway along we will stop for a well-deserved rest, at the Vapori di Birra Brewery, the only one in Europe to use geothermal energy. A small tasting of typical products, accompanied by beer born “from the breath of the earth”.
After the stop and a brief visit to Sasso Pisano, we return towards Monterotondo Marittimo through an impressive chestnut grove.
