The dynasty that made Florence the capital of art in the world. Who were the Medici?

Bankers, grand dukes, skilled strategists: from the splendor of the golden age of the dynasty to the decline of a family that has marked the fate of Florence and the peninsula.

Centuries have passed since the death of the last Medici Grand Duke Gian Gastone (it was the year 1737), but still today if you say Florence you say Medici. Fully entitled among the greatest European families, the Medici have bequeathed to Florence palaces, sculptures, priceless works of art that still shout their name.

Originally from Mugello, they were great bankers and skilled politicians, so much so that they reached the papal throne and the throne of France. The Medici governed Florence for almost three hundred years, first behind the scenes of the republican institutions, then with the brazenness worthy of the greatest European families, alternating political fortunes to forced escapes.

The relationship between the family and the city was almost symbiotic, in which the destiny of one marked the destiny of the other: from the age of splendor of Cosimo the Elder, Lorenzo the Magnificent and Cosimo I, to the age of decadence and oblivion of the last Grand Dukes.

During our walk from San Marco to Palazzo Pitti, we will talk about Lorenzo (one Magnifico, the other a bit less), Cosimo (the Elder and the Grand Duke), popes and far-sighted women, but also about intrigues, passions, conspiracies and a "family evil".
